Any time you add a domain as hosted in some account, you typically set a pair of Name Servers to direct it to that specific service provider. On their end, three records are set up automatically right after the Internet domain is added - one A record and two MX records. The former is a numeric address, or IP address, which “tells” the domain name where its site is, while the other two are alphanumeric and they show the server that deals with the e-mails for that specific Internet domain. The website and the email hosting are generally considered to be one thing, when they are in reality two different services. Having different records for them will permit you to have them with different companies if you'd like. As an example, some new company might have outstanding uptime for your website, but you may not want to switch your e-mail messages from your current host and by using an A record to point the domain to the first and MX records to have the e-mails with the second, you could get the best of both companies. These records are checked when you wish to open a site or send an e-mail - either way, the company whose name servers are used for the domain will be contacted to retrieve the A and MX records and if you've set records different from their own, the correct web/mail server will then be contacted and you will see the needed site or your e-mail will be delivered.

Custom MX and A Records in Shared Website Hosting

If you have a shared website hosting account through our company and you wish to direct either your site or your emails to another provider, it'll take you literally only two mouse clicks to do this. Our Hepsia Control Panel comes with an easy-to-use DNS Records tool, where all your domains and subdomains are going to be listed alphabetically and you will be able to see and modify the A and/or MX records for any of them. If you want to use a different e-mail provider and they ask you to create more MX records than the standard 2, it is not going to take more than a few mouse clicks either to add them. Also you can set different latency for these records and the lower the latency, the greater the priority a certain MX record will have. The propagation of each record that you modify or set up is not going to take more than a few hours and if required, you will also be able to set the so-called Time-To-Live value, which indicates how long a record will stay active after it is modified or deleted.

Custom MX and A Records in Semi-dedicated Hosting

Accessing and modifying the A or MX records for any one of your domains or subdomains is really easy if you purchase a semi-dedicated server plan from our company. The accounts are handled using our in-house built Hepsia CP, which has a section dedicated to the DNS records of your domain names. The latter is going to be listed alphabetically and you may click on every one of them to see both the A and the MX records. Changing any record is as easy as typing in the new one in a text box and saving the change, so in case you have never dealt with such matters before, you simply won't experience any difficulties if you decide to move your website or e-mails to some other company while keeping the second service with our company. If needed, you could also set up additional MX records and set a specific priority depending on the recommendations of the new provider.
